How to Change a Cylinder Lock
Here is our quick 3 step guide on how to change a cylinder lock on an internal door at home!
For this task, you will need: a screwdriver, ruler, and the lock cylinder replacement with screws.
Begin by removing the retaining screw which is located on the faceplate on the side of the door, usually in alignment with the bottom of the lock cylinder and keyhole.
Next, insert the key into the lock. Once the key is in the lock, turn the key about 10 degrees to line up the cam with the body of the lock, and remove the cylinder slowly.
Finally, remove the cylinder by gently twisting the cylinder while its inserted in the lock. Once the cylinder loosens, pull it towards you and out of its socket.
For tips on choosing the right split size, here’s our simple guide:
Measure the overall length of your existing cylinder lock with a ruler.
Attain the split size by measuring from the left external side of the cylinder lock to the centre of the screw-hole.
